You need to establish a starting point before you can move forward and what you actually want to do online. We also need to work out what you can do for someone in order for them to give you money.

Digital Agency:

This can be very competitive but also very rewarding.

You will be doing all of the operational work actually you will be doing everything. This can limit your ability to scale your business but it is a great way to start out.

Every agency needs people who can manage a portfolio of their clients. This is a skill that requires human contact and an understanding of the delivery of the service. Depending on the agency you may need to handle a large portfolio of clients to make up your wage, this can be stressful but its also fast paced so if you enjoy a challenge this is for you.

Estimated Wages: $50-70k (AUS) average

What you need to get started: Some experience managing accounts, good phone manner, neat appearance, an understanding of online marketing and the tools and performance metrics. Google certificates help land roles.

Lead Generation:

This career path is going to be full of highs and lows. You will never control the traffic.

This type of career can be rewarding but it comes with a lot of risk. If you run a network of assets it just takes one hit to lose your network. If you have one bad campaign and the traffic doesnt convert you run risk of having spent your Advertising budget on a failed campaign.

 

This is a bit of a rogue role where you create assets that rank for keywords that are lucrative and you rent these assets either websites or. Google My Businesses out to people who want that keyword you are ranking like for an example a local plumber would be interested in paying for the number 1 ranked plumbing website for his main keyword.

Estimated Rental Income: Really depends on the keyword and city but can range from $100-$1k monthly

What you need to get started: You need either a website or a GMB asset that you can optimise to rank for a target keyword, you also need a company to rent that once its ranking.

When you learn how to drive traffic you can literally explode almost any campaign that you work on. A Traffic manager is a. highly sought after role in digital agencies and affiliate marketing. 

Estimated income: This varies but standard AUS salary $70-90k

What you need to get started: You need a. solid understanding of traffic channels, cost per click, CTR and analysis of these campaigns. You must have success to do this role.

Affiliate Marketing:

This career path can be very lucrative but it also has the highest fail rate for newbies.

Personally I dislike Amazon but there is a lot of commissions to be made promoting Amazon products.

Im a big fan of Click Funnels it really has changed my business. The affiliate program is easy to set up and the software is so simple to use anyone can do it. The payments are pretty generous and the sticky cookie is the winning formula.

Estimated income: you get 20% and 40% commission depending what the person clicked to join.

What you need to get started: You dont even need a Click Funnels account to promote them. You just need to sign up for the account and then the payment platform.

These platforms allow you to sign up and search for affiliate offers that you can promote from digital products to actual real world services and offers. 

Estimated income: Im going to say this again but its really dependant on you and how you apply yourself. You can make $20 a day or you can be making $100 a day the sky is the limit.

What you need to get started: you need an account on these platforms and you must complete the payment terms so that you can get paid. You need somewhere to promote the offers, you need an audience, an email list helps, you need traffic these are minimums. 

Ecommerce Marketing:

Of all the career paths listed this will probably be the one that is the hardest and requires the most work.

I own a few ecommerce brands and as rewarding as it is the challenge and the work I put it in takes its toll. Start one store at a time. Build a brand people can get behind and buy into. You need a good product and a great brand to make waves.

 

Estimated income: It varies on what you sell but very lucrative. Ive made up tp 70% of sale price as profit. It depends on what you sell.

Risks: The platform may change, trends, reviews, Ad account banned

What you need to get started:  You need a storefront, you need a CMS like Shopify, Magento or WordPress to sell, You need inventory, you need product storage, you need a. brand, you need customer service, you need shipping plans and a lot of policies to protect your brand. You need a. lot.

I have always loved dropshipping it can confuse people how it works but basically you take someone else’s product and promote it as your own and when someone buys it you use that money to purchase the product and have it sent to the buyer.

Estimated income: the sky is the limit, it really depends on what you sell, your margins and how much advertising you need to do to sell the product.

Risks: your business is in the seller’s hands, you need to buy traffic and this eats your margins.

What you need to get started: You need a. storefront to sell from, you need to know what product to sell, you need to know your numbers because margins are tight and you need to know what traffic source to use for results.

I would always use dropshipping first to test the product before I even thought about private label of that winning product. When you private label you take a product you like and have the manufacturer change some parts of the product to your spec and add a brand or label to it. Making it a. new brand that you now own.

Estimated income: Much more than dropshipping, it does vary depending on what you sell I saw 40% increase on what I was dropshipping. 

Risks: Brand reputation, lack of product testing, inventory overstock.

What you need to get started: You need a winning product, you need to have physically tested this product for break points, you need money to buy the products and you need branding. I would strongly suggest a product launch strategy as well.

 

If you want to jump on the social influencer bandwagon you can it takes time to build the following and you do need to be relevant and active. This is a real risky business model it just takes 1 negative comment or a bad post from you and your empire could crumble before you I suggest caution if you do take this career path.

Minimum followers: 50K as a minimum

Social Platform: Instagram or YouTube

Estimated earnings: Varies drastically but mentions can go for $70-100 and shoutouts can go from $150-$1k

What you need to get started: You need a following, you need a voice, you need to produce results. If you dont convert the mention into clicks and then into sales you wont get much work. It’s a ruthless game and a couple of bad campaigns and you can find yourself out of work real fast.
